Does your rack battery have a Pace BMS?

The name on the front panel rarely tells you who made the board behind it. A few simple checks usually settle the question, without voiding anything.

In short

  • The brand on the battery and the maker of the BMS are often two different companies.
  • A PbmsTools connection showing a P16S reference is the clearest sign.
  • Two batteries with the same name can use different boards, so check your own unit.

Battery assemblers buy their cells from one factory and their BMS from another, then put their own badge on the case. Pace is one of the best-known suppliers of those boards, which is why owners find them in racks from many brands. Forum reports mention Jakiper and Gobel Power among others, but treat any list as a clue, never as proof: a maker can change supplier from one batch to the next.

Check 1: try PbmsTools

PbmsTools is the Windows program used with these boards. If it connects over the RS232 socket and shows a reference such as P16S100A or P16S200A, you have your answer, along with the firmware version. This check only reads the board as long as you do not press Write.

Check 2: look at the front panel

Many racks with these boards share a pattern: RJ45 sockets for the link between packs, CAN and RS485 sockets side by side, a small RJ11 for RS232, and a row of address switches. The pattern is a hint. Other BMS makers use similar panels, so it cannot settle the matter alone.

Check 3: read the manual and the spec sheet

Search the battery manual for “PbmsTools”, “Pace” or a “P16S” reference. A software download offered by the seller often gives the game away too.

Check 4: ask, with the serial number

A good seller can tell you which BMS your unit has. Quote the serial number and ask for the board reference and firmware version. Keep the reply: it will help with any later support request.

Why it matters

Knowing the board tells you which software, which protocol and which accessories apply. It also tells you whether a monitor made for that board can read your rack. If you are still unsure, send us a photo of the panel and we will tell you what we can see before you spend anything.

Common questions

Do I need to open the battery to check?

No, and we advise against it. PbmsTools, the panel and the documents usually answer the question from the outside.

Is a battery with a Pace BMS better or worse?

The board alone does not decide that. Cells, assembly and firmware matter just as much.

Can Pace Monitor read my rack if the board is another brand?

Not with this edition. Send us the details: we may have another edition for your board.
